Motorhome hire at Alicante Airport: complete guide to collecting your motorhome

After several years delivering motorhomes to travellers arriving at Alicante Airport, I have realised that most of them have the same doubts before starting their trip. If this is also your first experience, our guide on renting a motorhome for the first time.

Where is the motorhome collected? What happens if the flight is delayed? Is it possible to collect the vehicle at night? How long does the handover take? What documentation is required?

That is why I have prepared this guide. Here you will find all the information on how campervan hire at Alicante Airport really works and what you can expect on the day of collection.

Where do I collect the campervan at Alicante Airport?

One of the most common questions is whether one has to travel to another place after landing.

The answer is no.

The motorhome is delivered directly to Alicante Airport. There is no need to look for taxis, buses or organise any additional transfers.

A few days before arrival we send a video guide and the necessary instructions to easily find the drop-off point. The route is very simple. After leaving the arrivals area, you just need to go up to the second floor, pass by Starbucks and head towards the vehicle exit area, where we carry out the handover.

Thanks to the video guide and the instructions we sent before arrival, most of our clients find the motorhome without any difficulty.

What happens if the flight is delayed?

Flight delays are quite normal, especially during the peak season.

That is why we always ask to be informed if the schedule changes. This way we can coordinate the delivery and adapt to the new arrival time.

The most important thing is to keep in touch. If we know the flight is going to arrive later, we simply adjust the delivery schedule.

When a delay changes the plans

Over the years I have learned that often the problem isn't arriving later, but rather the consequences of that delay.

I remember the case of a client who was due to land in Alicante at about seven in the evening on a Saturday. His idea was to pick up the campervan, buy food for the first few days of the trip and set off for the Pyrenees the following morning.

However, the flight was delayed and ended up arriving around nine o'clock at night. By that time, I already knew that most supermarkets would be closed and that the following day, being Sunday, finding open shops would be much more complicated.

For many people coming from other countries, this is surprising. Not everyone knows that in Spain many supermarkets remain closed on Sundays.

When we spoke, she sent me a short list of basic products for breakfast and for the first day of the trip. I used the time before her arrival to buy everything necessary and leave it ready inside the motorhome.

That very night he was able to head to a quiet area near the coast to rest. The following morning he had a leisurely breakfast and continued his route towards the Pyrenees without wasting time looking for supermarkets or changing his plans. As it was a long journey, he had chosen a motorhome with enough autonomy for travelling several days without relying on a campsite.

That is why I always recommend letting us know if there are any changes to the flight schedule. Often, a simple message helps to avoid unnecessary problems at the start of the trip.

Is it possible to collect the motorhome at night?

Yes.

We offer flexible hours and it is also possible to collect the motorhome in the evening by prior arrangement.

In fact, roughly half of our customers arrive during the afternoon or evening. It is not uncommon to make deliveries at eight, nine or even ten at night.

On some occasions travellers prefer to rest near the airport before starting the route. I remember several clients who arrived around half past ten at night, picked up the motorhome and travelled just a few minutes to a quiet area by the sea to sleep. The next morning they continued their journey much more rested.

What documentation do I need to send before arriving?

To prepare the rental agreement, we need to receive certain documentation before arrival.

Normally we request:

  • DNI, NIE or passport.
  • Driving licence.
  • Full address.
  • Telephone number.
  • Email.

If there is a second driver, we will also need their documentation.

Preparing this data in advance allows delivery to be considerably expedited.

When are the contract signed and the deposit paid?

The contract is signed directly upon delivery of the motorhome.

The deposit can be paid in cash at the time of collection or by bank transfer. If paid by transfer, the amount must be received prior to delivery of the vehicle.

That way, when you arrive at the airport, everything will be ready to begin the journey.

How long does delivery take?

In many rental companies, handover can take quite a while due to the initial explanations.

In our case the process is usually much quicker.

We have explanatory videos and several guides published on the website where we explain how the motorhome works, the use of water, electricity, heating and other important aspects.

For this reason, delivery usually takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

During that time we review the documentation, resolve any pending questions and explain any specific aspect of interest to the client.

What if it is my first motorhome trip?

That's not a problem.

In fact, most people who hire a motorhome with us are doing so for the first time.

That is why we have prepared several specific guides for beginners where we explain the whole process in more detail, from choosing the vehicle to planning the first route.

What happens if I have questions during the trip?

During the trip I remain available on WhatsApp for any queries that may arise.

In many cases, a single message is enough to quickly resolve a query or point you towards where to find the necessary information. My goal is for you to be able to enjoy the trip without wasting time looking for solutions on your own.

Most common destinations from Alicante

Over the years I have seen very different routes.

Many travellers travel along the Costa Blanca and Andalusia. Others prefer to head towards the Pyrenees or discover the north of Spain.

The Pyrenees remain one of the favourite destinations, especially routes combining Spain and the south of France.

We also organise trips to other European countries, although the majority of tours continue to take place within Spain.

One of the greatest advantages of travelling in a motorhome is precisely that freedom to change your plans whenever you feel like it and discover places that weren't initially planned.
