How to use a motorhome's chemical toilet: everything you need to know before your first trip<\/h1>

If it's your first time travelling in a motorhome, it's normal for the chemical toilet to raise a few doubts. However, after using it once or twice you'll find that it's much simpler than it seems.<\/p>

Before every rental, I spend a few minutes showing my clients how it works. After that short explanation, they almost never have questions again. In this article I've put together everything you really need to know before setting off.<\/p>

How a cassette toilet works<\/h2>

Under the toilet there's a removable cassette with a 22-litre capacity. That's where the waste is stored.<\/p>

On the outside of the motorhome you'll find a service hatch right behind the bathroom. That's where you take the cassette out to empty it.<\/p>

How to use the toilet<\/h2>

Before using the toilet, open the inner hatch by moving the blue lever to the right.<\/p>

Once open, you can use the WC in the exact same way as the one at home.<\/p>

When you're done, press the flush button. In our motorhomes, the water for flushing comes from the vehicle's clean water tank.<\/p>

After flushing, close the hatch again by moving the lever back. It only takes a few seconds, and it stops odours building up during your trip while also keeping the cassette fully sealed while you drive.<\/p>

What can be flushed down the toilet<\/h2>

You can use ordinary toilet paper.<\/p>

When I started out working with motorhomes, I only used special chemical toilet paper. Over time I found that ordinary toilet paper works perfectly well too. What really matters is always using the right chemical treatment and emptying the cassette regularly.<\/p>
