Why at the beginning I only wanted to buy a motorhome (2019)
When the idea of having a motorhome first came up, I didn't even consider another option. For me it was very simple: if you want to travel in a motorhome, you have to buy one. I didn't even know it was possible to build one from scratch or convert a van.
I thought the hardest part would be saving the money and choosing the right model. But I soon discovered that the real problem was something else.
I simply had no idea which motorhome I needed.
I started by looking at adverts on Milanuncios and Wallapop. After that it was no longer enough and I began visiting motorhomes in person. The more I saw, the more doubts I had.
There were A-class motorhomes, low-profile motorhomes, campervans, completely different layouts, sizes, manufacturing years… Some were modern, but very expensive. Others were already fifteen or twenty years old and, even so, they still cost a lot of money. After each visit I left with more questions than answers.
Little by little I began to notice the details. One bed or two. A large garage or a more compact body. Separate shower or combined bathroom. But the most important thing was that I didn't understand which features were really worth it and which ones simply made the price go up.
What surprised me the most were the prices.
The motorhomes that I really liked cost between 60,000 and 70,000 euros. But I soon realised that buying it was just the beginning. If later on I wanted to install more batteries, add solar panels or make any improvements, I would have to invest a lot more money. Then came the taxes, paperwork and other expenses I hadn't even thought about.
There was a time when I sat down to crunch the numbers. The more I calculated, the more I kept asking myself the same question:
What is it exactly that makes a motorhome cost so much money?
Today, working on LSR365 (Freedom on Wheels), I remember that phase many times. Many people contact us because they want to buy a motorhome to travel or as an investment, and very often they ask me the exact same questions I was asking myself back then.
Over time I understood that there is no single answer. For some people it makes sense to buy a large motorhome to enjoy long trips. For others, it is much more profitable to invest in two compact models if the main objective is rental. It all depends on the use it is going to get.
Looking back, I realise that I didn't actually need to choose a model. What I needed was to understand how this world works and why some motorhomes are worth so much more than others.
Without realising it, that was one of the first decisions that years later would end up forming part of LSR365 (Freedom on Wheels).
If you have arrived at this page directly, you can start from the beginning at the complete story of how LSR365 was born.
And although I didn't know it yet, very soon a video recommended by YouTube would completely change the way I look at motorhomes. That was the beginning of the next stage of this story.
